I'm a content creator and I'm really interested in the raps of rapper Man.171. I think their lyrical philosophies offer a wide-ranging knowledge base for intellectuals who are looking for a different perspective on hip hop, or just someone to listen to while they're stressed out about college exams. Their lyrics range from storytelling to describing mundane life events, but always have this believable tone that feels like it's been picked up from the street corner or from over years worth of experience. It's like they've lived life and seen it all, but still managed to enjoy themselves along the way. From the moment I heard the opening bars of 'Reason', their most popular track (and one of my favorite rap songs of all time), I knew that Man.171 was going to be a great discovery for me. The first thing that stood out to me was the beat: layered drums and a heavy bassline that gives a sense of urgency, but then a steady kick drum that keeps a steady rhythm throughout. The other main component is Man's voice, which has so much emotion behind each syllable. These two elements together make for a sound that feels like it could only come from the current generation. When I was introduced to Man's work, I have to admit that my first impression was of their visuals. A lot of America's rappers have a tendency to overuse filters, but Man.171 is the exact opposite. Their videos are shot on a very basic level and simply show them walking around or walking towards the camera. The overall mood is always laid back and easy going, without being lazy about it. Because of their cinematic style, it gives them an "old school" feel of traditional hip hop elegance that is so rare nowadays. 'Man.171' is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time, and it definitely inspired me to go out and get more of their music. But not only did it inspire me, but also had the power to make me feel good about my own rapping abilities. Because of that, 'Man.171' will always hold a special place in my heart. The lyrics are very straight forward yet are still creative enough to keep listeners engaged. It has an old school vibe which is rare nowadays because people seem to be looking for something new or different whereas Man.171 sticks with what's good and simply does it how they know how to do it best. It also feels like a personal conversation between two people that anyone could be listening to. I would say that this is Man's first track that is truly relatable for any hip hop lover, and because of its lyrical content, there is no doubt in my mind that this one will be known throughout the hip hop community. The content of the lyrics are enough to leave me satisfied, but what really leaves me in awe is some of the lines they've come up with. There are some real gems amongst some ordinary verses-but there are more great lines than bad ones. Every time I hear it, it always seems like new lines jump out at me which was surprising considering how many times I must have listened to it already. eccc085e13
